In case you’re wondering why Brock Lesnar got a championship bout after only 3 fights:

  1. Boxing: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao, Dec. 6, 1,250,000
  2. UFC: Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture, Nov. 15, 1,010,000
  3. Wrestling: WrestleMania, Edge vs. Undertaker, March 30, 670,000
  4. UFC: Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch/Lesnar vs. Heath Herring, Aug. 9, 625,000
  5. UFC: Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, Feb. 2, 600,000
  6. UFC: Quinton Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin, July 5, 540,000
  7. UFC: St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra, April 19, 530,000
  8. Boxing: Felix Trinidad vs. Roy Jones Jr., Jan. 19, 500,000
  9. UFC: Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans, Sept. 6, 480,000
  10. UFC: B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk/Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida, May 24, 475,000

If there’s any question that MMA has taken over Boxing as the #1 PPV sport in the US, there’s your answer. De La Hoya has the name power to draw 1 million buys, but not after that fight. He’s done (if you didn’t see the fight, he was dominated for 8 rounds by Pacquiao, and looked old and useless)

More interestingly, look whose name headlines the top 3 UFC events… There’s no question, Brock is now UFC’s biggest star, taking that position from Chuck Liddell.

  1. You tend to forget that big boxing fights are broadcasted to more than hundread countries (a lot more than MMA). Boxing is huge in Mexico, South America, Germany, UK, Japan, Australia, Phillipines, now even China and many many other countries and fans pay (usually indirectly – cable tv) for watching the fights. Also the live gate for big boxing cards is significantly higher.

In 2009 & 2009, boxing had and continues to have a greater amount of world class fights, and the majority have been non-PPV. There is a UFC PPV every month, who is getting screwed here as a fan? UFC 96 and 97 was a bunch of over hyped garbage, and the fights themselves turned out even worse.

Margarito-Mosley, Marquez-Diaz, Berto-Collazo, Froch-Taylor and soon to be Cotto-Clotey and Klitchko-Haye all non-PPV. How does that compare to paying $45 for Jardine-Jackson and Silva-Lietes? GSP-Penn was a true super fight on paper, to bad it didn’t live up to the hype.

There has been only one major boxing (Pacquiao-Hatton) PPV so far in 2009 and it was a true superfight that got more media attention then any MMA event ever.

There is more boxing on TV in North Anerica then MMA. Plus, ratings for HBO boxing have gone up. On a worldwide comparison there is no comparion as boxing has a lot more coverage than MMA.

Perhaps you should quit commenting on boxing since its obvious that you don’t follow the sport.

If ZUFFA (owners of the UFC) ever fails as a promoter then so does the whole sport of MMA. The sad part is that this could happen under the current system. Like it or not, the UFC equals all of MMA to a majority of fans. MMA one major scandal away from killing the ONLY major promoter, much like what happened in Japan. This will never happen in boxing.

Your a typical MMA loving tool who claims to be a fan of MMA but know little else of boxing. Quite pathetic if you ask me.

  2. Wow! Quite the rant there. I don’t know where that came from, it’s not like I was comparing boxing to MMA. All I did was list the top 10 PPV sales in North America. Nothing else. You sound like the typical boxing-loving tool who loves to spew hatred to anyone and everyone who happens to enjoy MMA.

  3. Yeah that was a stupid rant, i’m a fight fan MMA and Boxing and i hate these type of boxing fans, that hate MMA for no logical reason. How can you be a fight fan and not like both boxing and MMA.

As for the PPV buy’s what i really expected Wreslte Mania is always up there for some sad reason and no suprise UFC is dominating the PPV buys and Number 1 also isn’t suprising Pacman/Hoya was always gonna be a huge draw
